Orchard Lake Country Club formed in 1926, is south east Michigan’s premier family club set along beautiful Orchard Lake offering signature golf, racquets, boating, pool, formal and casual dining and social activities. The most important aspects of the Orchard Lake Country Club experience are the friendships and memories that are created for all the families and friends that come to Orchard Lake Country Club.

C² Limited was retained by Orchard Lake Country Club to create a conceptual lifestyle master plan. The intent is to re-position the club and its campus for future success and multi-generational family use and enjoyment.

In 2018, the Orchard Lake Country Club (OLCC) Board of Governors was charged with passing a major clubhouse renovation project. Our members had narrowly turned down a renovation project in 2016. The Board wanted a different design firm for this project, one with private club expertise and knowledge.

We interviewed six different companies, both local and national firms. The field was reduced to two national companies and in the end we overwhelmingly selected C² Limited Design Associates. Their initial concepts were excellent, and their portfolio matched well with what we felt OLCC needed. We also felt comfortable with them handling both the design and decorating components of the project.

C² was wonderful to work with. Craig Smith has a low-key style and is a great listener. He understands the committee process and the mind of club members. The initial design was well received at our first Town Hall meeting, but as we put costs to the project there was a fair amount of value engineering required. Craig worked well with our architect, builder and OLCC GM Peter Swick to help bring costs in line without sacrificing the look and feel we wanted to achieve.

Our project passed with an 81% approval in October 2018, despite the largest member capital assessment ever. The construction phase was bumpy, but Craig stayed totally engaged. We opened the new clubhouse Memorial Day weekend 2019 to a very favorable response from our membership.

Not only is the design a huge success, but Christina Romann's interior decorating and furnishings are outstanding. The club now has a consistent look and feel throughout. C² felt we needed a “relaxed elegance” feel to the club given our lakefront setting and seasonality and they hit a home run. Activity is up dramatically in F&B, special events, and in members just “hanging out” at the club more.

It has been my privilege to work with C² as Board VP during the design and approval phases and as President during the construction and reopening phases. I can’t thank C² enough for the time, effort and expertise they brought to our project.
